Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC) is one of the largest global crew management and diversified maritime services companies in the Philippines, deploying more than 55,020 seafarers annually on over 1,230 vessels worldwide.
Early on in its corporate life, PTC pioneered the deployment of an all-Filipino crew, initially on board brand new car carriers, then on various bulk carriers, and eventually on brand new OBOs. Their successful performance paved the way for more opportunities for Filipino seafarers globally and helped create a new and vibrant chapter in Philippine crewing.
PTC’s overall crew management philosophy and business model is anchored on the principle of establishing “partnerships of equal interest” whose primary focus is the overall development of the PTC global maritime professional. To date, PTC has developed this approach with over 100 principals who are industry leaders in their own regions – Europe, Asia and North America – who share a common focus on seafarer welfare and career development, and are one with PTC’s commitment to inspire lives, build futures and move the world.
Today, more than 37 years later, the PTC Group has grown beyond crew management and now provides an integrated value chain of diversified services that include:
- ship and crew management
- maritime education and training
- chartering
- ship agency
- logistics and freight forwarding

Services
Crew management
PTC’s crewing operation is anchored on an account management system that provides customized attention to the requirements of each principal. An integrated human resource development model is at the core of PTC’s crew management programme, allowing for the advancement of a seafarer’s career – from recruitment to employment, through training and professional development and ultimately, retention.
Education and training
PTC, through its training partner the Philippine Centre for Advanced Maritime Simulation and Training, Inc. (PHILCAMSAT), is committed to produce highly-competent and professional seafarers. As the first maritime training centre in the Philippines to be thrice-certified by Det Norske Veritas for maritime training and the only institution in Asia to be certified by the Belgian Maritime Inspectorate, PHILCAMSAT sets the global standard for maritime training in the Philippines.
Investing heavily in faculty training and development, and in the most modern of equipment, the centre offers state-of-the-art facilities and cutting edge technology to mimic the environment on board. Currently, PHILCAMSAT has four independent ship bridge simulators, two of which can be integrated with two full mission engine simulators (one hardware-equipped and one touch screen) to provide world-class simulation training. The centre is also accredited to offer specialized training and assessment programmes that include the Navigational Skills Assessment Program (NSAP), Human Element Leadership Management (HELM) Training and Superintendent Training Course.
Reinforcing its commitment to enhance global competitiveness in Filipino seafarers, the centre has developed the Maritime Skills Training Campus (The MAST), which offers STCW basic training, advanced fire fighting, proficiency in survival craft and fast rescue boat, and proficiency in fast rescue boat initial and refresher training, as well as, OPITO-certified offshore safety and survival courses.
To prepare Filipinos to become successful leaders in the global culinary and hospitality industries, PHILCAMSAT has created a world-class culinary and hospitality programme that utilizes state-of-the-art facilities for a conducive and effective learning environment.
Industry-academic linkages are a strong supplement to the centre’s training programmes. A partnership with the country’s premier engineering academic institution, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL), resulted in the creation of the Mapua-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training (CMET). This key strategic initiative has produced a supply of well-trained, technically-oriented cadet officers equipped with a solid conceptual background in marine transportation and marine engineering, and advanced hands-on training and instructions to meet industry standards of competence.
Another integral part of the company’s value chain of education is the Senior Maritime High School Track – a cooperative initiative between PTC, the Philippine Government, and ANGKLA, the country’s maritime party. The programme nurtures technical skills and prepares senior high school students to immediately join the maritime industry as qualified ratings upon completion of their secondary education.
Healthcare
PTC believes that Filipino seafarers and their families should have convenient access to the best healthcare facilities and services. PTC, through its preferred partner Health Metrics (HMI), offers a wide range of consultative, diagnostic and laboratory services, including stringent pre-employment medical exams to produce a holistic and thorough snapshot of a seafarer’s fitness for duty.
Housing development
PTC shares in every seafarer’s dream of owning a home and therefore has forged a partnership with ACM Homes. Through a shared vision of providing affordable housing, the partnership established several housing development projects – Pacific Terraces Community (PTC) and PTC South in Cavite; Mahogany Place in Lipa; and Salas Real in Iloilo. Currently there are over 2,000 housing units available for seafarers to choose from and in the years ahead, this initiative is expected to give rise to a chain of seafarers’ villages across the country.
Financing
PTC empowers seafarers and their families by helping them secure financial freedom by establishing their own business or expanding their existing ones. Through an affiliated company, First Maritime Credit Corporation (FMCC) provides seafarers with access to bridge loans intended for livelihood and entrepreneurial initiatives.
Offshore processing
To help provide its partners with industry-focused services and solutions, PTC has created First Maritime Shared Services (FMSS), an independent provider of cost management services. FMSS offers customized controlling and planning processes that assure business continuity and cost-effective operations at all times. Through industry focused services and solutions, FMSS allows companies to leverage on the strategic advantages of outsourcing in order to enhance their global competitiveness.
