Climeon Signs 1 MEUR HeatPower 300 Order with a Global Leader in Sustainable Shipping for Existing Container Vessels

One of the largest global shipping companies has signed an order for Climeon HeatPower 300 waste heat recovery systems to increase energy efficiency on board two large size existing container vessels. The order value is approximately 1 MEUR and the HeatPower 300 units will be delivered to the repeat customer of Climeon’s during 2024.

Waste Heat Recovery for EEXI Compliance?

The Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) comes into force later this year, putting shipowners under increasing pressure to comply with new regulations. With most existing vessels exceeding the emissions thresholds set out in the EEXI, shipowners will need to modify ship designs to reduce emissions in order to continue operating.

Climeon delivers new steam turbine solution to Viking Line

Climeon has developed a new steam turbine solution tailored for Viking Line’s new ship Viking Glory. The two steam turbines have now passed a Factory Acceptance Test with Viking Line and the certification body DNV-GL present. The steam turbines are part of the order placed by Viking Line in 2017 and will be delivered to Viking Glory over the upcoming months.

Climeon wins repeat order from Fincantieri

Climeon has received an additional order from the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri of Heat Power modules worth EUR 1.5 million. The Heat Power modules will be installed in the fourth cruise ship that Fincantieri is building for Virgin Voyages.

How will the Maritime industry deal with the 2020 Sulphur Regulations?

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted stricter regulations on emissions, most prominently restrictions on Sulphur oxide (SOx) emissions, that will come into force first of January 2020. The current limit of allowed Sulphur content is no more than 3.50% m/m (mass of sulfur / total mass) and with the new 2020 regulations, ships will have to use fuel oil with a Sulphur content of no more than 0.50% m/m. The alternative is to continue with Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and to clean the exhaust gases with so called Scrubbers.
