Tillberg Design of Sweden is involved in five major newbuilds and refit projects for Disney Cruise Line, RCCL’s Voyager Class and Regent Seven Seas. Also, the final touch has just been given to TUI Cruise’s Mein Schiff 3 and the concept work has started for its sister ship. Likewise, the design of Norwegian Breakaway is nearing completion, as are the concepts for its sister ship. Meanwhile, the exciting general planning of NCL’s upcoming newbuild is well underway.
The core aspect of any development is a high sales-to-square-foot ratio, which leaves no room for inefficiency in the master planning. It’s fascinating to see how smart multipurpose design is now gaining ground, and that onboard spaces are increasingly designed to be used more effectively throughout the day, courtesy of clever, flexible planning. The use of new lighting and technology also makes things possible today that were completely unthinkable only a few years ago. This is paired with compressing and optimising the size of back-of-house areas to drive sales.
Compared with only a few years ago, there is also a quickly growing awareness among marine clients of what is happening ashore in the hotel and resort industry. Interior design is now considered a very powerful competition tool to match the quickly changing tastes and trends. Tillberg Design also serves several major hotel chains with design, which also helps to bring new ideas to its marine clientele, and vice versa – a cross-fertilisation that is equally fruitful and stimulating.
In order to give every prestigious client a distinct and individual design, Tillberg Design has developed a huge and unique concept atelier, set up so that each client has it’s own dedicated and highly experienced concept team. To make sure that everything works onboard, the studio is stocked from floor to ceiling with well-tested certified materials from trusted suppliers from all over the world.
