The National Geographic Orion’s public spaces are to be renovated during dry dock this autumn. Refurbishments to the main lounge will include 20% extra space for seating following the removal of the library; a "circle of truth" area for presentations and discussions; a new bar, refreshed furnishings and a new audio-visual system.

The Observation Lounge will be redesigned to include a library, nautical chart table and a self-service drinks station

The work will be undertaken by ICF Singapore and will be completed in time for this year’s Wild Encounters from Borneo to Bali expedition across the South China and Java seas in September.

The 102-guest ship, which is a joint venture between Lindblad Expeditions and the National Geographic Society, launched in March 2014. She is equipped with exploration tools including tandem kayaks, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and a glass-bottomed boat.
